Why level matters more than polish
A well written pitch that shows APS6 level judgement will not win an EL1 role, because the panel is reading it against the Work Level Standards for the classification advertised, not against general writing quality. Most unsuccessful pitches are not badly written; they are pitched a classification too low. This checker names the gap specifically, rather than only telling you the writing is fine.

What is an APS pitch?
The one page statement, sometimes called a statement of claims, that has replaced individually addressed selection criteria across much of the Australian Public Service. It is usually capped at one to two pages or 500 to 1,000 words.
Why does the level I'm applying for matter?
The APS Work Level Standards expect different things at each classification. An APS5 needs to show reliable delivery within guidelines; an APS6 needs to show judgement and handling ambiguity; an EL1 needs to show leadership, not just personal output. A pitch pitched a level too low is the most common reason a strong candidate misses out, so this checker assesses which level your evidence actually demonstrates, not just whether it's well written.
Will this tell me if I should apply at a different level?
It will tell you what level the evidence in your current draft reads as. If that's below what you're applying for, the fix is usually stronger examples from your actual experience, not necessarily a different level. If you consistently can't find EL1 level evidence, that itself is useful information.
Does it write the pitch for me?
No, deliberately. Public sector panels check references and probation exists, so a pitch built on someone else's experience is a bad idea. This tells you what's missing from your own draft so you can fix it.
Do you keep the pitch I paste?
